Coiled Hose Or Regular Garden Hose?

Coiled Hose Or Regular Garden Hose?

For anyone who likes to spend time outside gardening or landscaping a water hose is a very important tool. Without a sophisticated sprinkler system a water hose is necessary to keep flowers, vegetable plants and herbs thriving throughout the summer. A traditional style garden hose is perfectly fine for some, but others prefer some of the features found on coiled hoses.

Standard Garden Hose

We’re all familiar with the standard garden hose. Most of them are green, which blends in well with the outdoors. They come in varying lengths and easily attach to each other in case you have a large property or a job that requires additional length.

Old school or traditional water hoses are very useful, but they have some drawbacks. They can be heavy to lug around the yard and over time they can form kinks which restrict the water flow. If you don’t have a hose reel or other form of hose storage they can be a bit of an eye-sore in a neatly landscaped yard unless you coil it and put it in the garage after every use.

However as everything else evolves so does the garden hose. You can now easily find heavy duty or kink free hoses. You can find models that are lightweight and easier to control. You can also find eco-garden hoses that are lead free and safe to use for drinking that are durable and lightweight.

With a good hose storage device the standard style of garden hose is preferred by many people.

Coiled Garden Hose

If you don’t like traditional version you may want to consider a coiled garden hose. A coiled hose looks and functions a little bit like a spring. It has a coiled design that retracts to its original form, which is fairly compact, after using it. This type of hose is pretty lightweight, and it will not tangle or kink. Many versions are made with a material that is drinking water safe.

Of course there are a few drawbacks to this style as well though. Because it doesn’t lay flat on the ground, like the traditional style, it can knock things like potted plants over while you are using it if you aren’t careful. It also doesn’t work as well for larger areas; it is best used in smaller areas like a patio.

If you spend a lot of time outside planting and gardening the type of garden hose you choose is pretty important as you will be using it regularly.
