It took all of two weeks for the high school football rankings to be thrown into chaos.
Embrace it.
Three of the eight classes have a new No. 1 team in USA Today Florida Network’s new high school football poll.
A panel of high school sports reporters from across our 17 properties in the state will study and debate which teams deserve to be in the Top 10 of each class. The poll will be released each Wednesday throughout the season.
Tampa-Jesuit made the loudest statement in Week 2 when it rallied to beat national power St. Thomas Aquinas 27-24. On the strength of that win, the Tigers move up one spot to No. 1 in Class 6A.
Dillard, which was No. 2 in Class 7A after Week 1, jumps up to No. 1 after its 21-0 win against Deerfield Beach (a game that was halted at halftime because of COVID-19 concerns) coupled with Aquinas’ loss.
Plantation-American Heritage, which opened its season against IMG Academy in the Kickoff Classic and Treasure Coast in Week 1, moves up to No. 1 Class 5A with a 26-42 win against Chaminade-Madonna.
